Lee has been an official member of the Jordan Brand family since 1988, when he began playing his “She Must Have It” character Mars Blackmon in the now iconic Spike-and-Mike Air Jordan commercials,Fight Michael Jordan.Over the years, Nike has created several so-called “player-only” — custom-signed sneakers Nike typically provides to sponsored athletes — for filmmakers to wear on special occasions.

The latest version of the Air Jordan 1 from the Cannes Film Festival features a bold suede and leather scheme in white, blue and red to respect the colours of the French flag. But the tongue tag is all about Spike. The tag on the left shoe shows vintage photos of Mars Blackmon, but the bottom of his hat has been adjusted to read “Cannes” instead of “Brooklyn,” and his shirt reads “President Mars.”On the right, Lee wore a purple suit to the 2020 Academy Awards in a tribute to late Lakers star Kobe Bryant.Images of the new Air Jordan 1 shoes are surrounded by the French flag, and the words “Cannes Film Festival” and “President of the Jury” are in gold.
